Thermography & Chiropractic Care: How We Use Thermal Imaging for Early Detection

Chiropractors can detect problems within the human body and create specialized care plans for patients in several ways. As new medical technology develops, professionals can find ways to utilize it in their practice.

One such technique is the use of thermography in chiropractic care.

At Credence Chiropractic, we use this technology to help our patients receive better care. We explain what thermography is and how we can utilize the results for you.

What Is Thermography?

To understand how a chiropractor can use thermography to help patients, you need to understand what thermography is.

Thermography is a noninvasive process that measures the temperatures around the spine to look for misalignments. It detects heat in the human body.

If a subluxation is present, the nerves are being interfered with, which leads to increased blood flow and higher temperatures. Thermography is great for looking for neurological stress within the autonomic nervous system.

Skin temperatures should be consistent from one side of the body to the other, but with spinal misalignments, there can be a temperature difference on one side of the vertebra.

How Is Thermography Performed?

Let’s take a look at the step-by-step process of thermography.

Preparation

Before your thermography exam, make sure you avoid any factors that might affect your skin temperature, such as vigorous exercise, caffeine, and extreme temperature exposures. This will help your chiropractor get an accurate reading.

Image Capture

The patient sits in the room with controlled temperatures. An infrared camera captures images of the body’s surface.

The images display different colors to represent different temperature levels, creating a visual map called a thermogram.

Analysis

After the scan, a qualified thermographer will analyze the results, which involves identifying temperature asymmetries and anomalies.

Noticeable areas with temperature differences can indicate inflammation, circulation issues, or other underlying conditions.

Reporting

The results will be compiled into a report that provides insights into your thermal patterns. These patterns can detect potential health conditions and help your chiropractor develop a more accurate care plan.

How Can My Chiropractor Use Thermography?

By using thermography, a chiropractor can detect neurological stress within the spine before they become a major problem.

By targeting the areas where your body’s temperature is higher, a chiropractor can be more precise with their care. This can lead to better results for the patient, potentially reducing pain and back problems.

A chiropractor who uses thermography will perform this test before making an adjustment to ensure the skin temperatures are not affected by the adjustment itself. This ensures the scan is correct and the target areas are clearly defined.
